Digital SAT Grammar: Practice Questions

Strategy

  1. Read the sentence and surrounding context.
  2. Identify what is being tested (grammar rule, clarity, conciseness, etc.).
  3. Eliminate answers that create errors (subject-verb, punctuation, wordiness, etc.).
  4. Pick the most concise, correct, and relevant option.
  5. Reread with your answer to check fluency and correctness.
  6. Beware of “no change”—is it truly the best?
  7. Look for SAT traps: comma splices, misplaced modifiers, wrong tense, etc.
  8. Move on quickly if unsure; flag and come back if time allows.

Worked Example

Question

The students was preparing for the final exam.

Which of the following best replaces the underlined portion?

  • A. was
  • B. were

Process & Answer

  • Check agreement: "students" is plural, so "were" matches.
