Why Chicago families choose us

Private ISEE Tutoring Built Around Your Student

Chicago has one of the most competitive independent school admissions seasons in the country. Latin, Parker, and Lab all use the ISEE, and families across the city are preparing for the same fall and winter test dates. We help your student walk in calm and ready, with a plan built around the specific level and schools on your list.

Every plan starts with a diagnostic that covers Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Mathematics Achievement, and the essay. From there your tutor builds a session-by-session plan that mixes sections, builds vocabulary and reading stamina, and gets your student comfortable with the timing.

Good to Know

ISEE Levels, Seasons, and Deadlines

The ISEE has three levels for older applicants: the Lower Level for students applying to grades 5 and 6, the Middle Level for grades 7 and 8, and the Upper Level for grades 9 through 12. Students can take the ISEE once per testing season: fall (August to November), winter (December to March), and spring or summer (April to July).

Deadlines come up fast. For the 2027-28 school year, Latin’s application deadline is November 30, 2026, and Parker’s is December 1, 2026. We help you plan a test date that leaves room for a second attempt if it is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which schools near Chicago use the ISEE?

Latin School of Chicago requires the ISEE for grades 5 through 12, the University of Chicago Lab Schools require it for Middle and High School applicants, and Parker accepts the ISEE or SSAT for grades 6 through 12. North Shore Country Day and Lake Forest Academy also accept the ISEE. Always confirm current requirements with each school.

Which ISEE level will my child take?

The level depends on the grade your child is applying to: Lower Level for grades 5 and 6, Middle Level for grades 7 and 8, and Upper Level for grades 9 through 12.

How many times can my child take the ISEE?

Students can take the ISEE once in each testing season: fall, winter, and spring or summer. Many schools only accept scores from one test per application season, so planning matters.

Is the ISEE the same as the HSAT or HSPT?

No. Chicago Public Schools selective enrollment high schools use their own admissions test, and many Catholic high schools use the HSPT. The ISEE is used by independent schools like Latin, Lab, and Parker. We can help you sort out which tests your student needs.

Is your ISEE tutoring in Chicago online or in person?

Our tutoring for Chicago families is live online and one-on-one, with a real tutor on Zoom and an interactive whiteboard. In-person sessions may be available by request depending on location, so ask us during your free consultation.

When should we start ISEE prep?

We recommend starting three to six months before the test. For a fall or early winter test date, that usually means starting in late spring or summer.
